Benedictine School in the New Millenium

          St. Agnes’ Academy, Legazpi City is a member of the Association of Benedictine Schools (ABS), an organization of the schools owned and/or administered by the missionary Benedictine Sisters in the Philippines.

 

           The vision of the Association of Benedictine School for the last decade of the twentieth century is focused on an integral education which puts premium on social consciousness, prayer, community life and service to others.

 

HISTORY REVIEW

 

1975

  • Redefinition of the Missionary Benedictine task in the Philippines

  • Thrust of our schools as agents of social transformation

  • Bringing about in the students and awareness of the oppressive realities in the present day; and

  • A commitment of Christian action for social transformation

 

1978

  • Criteria for a socially oriented school

  • An assessment of our school social programs towards the end of 1979;

 

1980

  • Development of students’ ability and capacity to meaningfully participate and eventually organize liturgical services and celebrations

  • Benedictine community life as a witness of Christ’s presence among His people

 

1985

  • Active involvement in work with the marginalized of society towards self-reliance and total human liberation

  • Development of social awareness and involvement of the different sectors of the community with chosen programs of action that promote genuine democracy and nationalism.

 

1993

  • Launching of the theme on Education for Empowerment tied up with the previous year’s theme on Evangelization Towards an Evangelized and Evangelizing Community.

 

1994

  • Launching the school’s direction towards Integration of Benedictine and Family Values in the Curriculum;

 

1995

  • Intensification of the school’s direction towards Integration of Benedictine and Family Values in the Curriculum;

 

1996

  • Strengthening of the school direction towards Integration of Benedictine Values and Spirituality in the Curriculum;

 

1997

  • Building a vibrant community pulsating with the love of Christ nourished by prayer and experience of a loving relationship among the members of the community.

 

1998

  • Intensification of building a vibrant community pulsating with the love of Christ nourished by prayer and experience of a loving relationship among the members of the community.

 

1999

  • Committing ourselves to the healing of the earth and prevention of harm to nature since we are co-creator with God the Father

 

2000

  • Proclaim the Jubilee call to Celebrations of Life, Conversion and Co-Creation
