POLICIES OF THE GRADE SCHOOL INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA CENTER

1. BOOK SELECTION

 

              Book selection depends on the students need, and the available funds.  Suggestions and opinions

    of the Faculty, Students, Library Staff and the Principal are taken into consideration in the selection of

    the library materials.

 

         The following criteria are considered in the selection of books:

 

    a. Philosophy and objectives of the school.

 

    b. Range of the reading ability of the students.

 

    c. Data of circulation.

 

    d. Quality of mateirals in terms of the accuracy of the content.

 

    e. Interest and need of the students and teachers.

 

    f. Permanence or timely values.

 

2. ACQUISITION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

 

    a. The Grade School Instructional Media Center purchases non-print and other print materials as often as

        necessary during the year.

 

    b. The Librarian is guided by the expressed needs of teachers, administrators and students.  She also

        refers to various publishers' catalogues.

 

    c. The Faculty and the Librarian take opportunity to examine reference materials given by Publishing

        houses through their Sales Representative or book dealers.

 

3. DISPLAY OF NEW ACQUISITIONS

              

               Newly acquired books and other library materials are displayed and the lists of these materials are

    properly posted on the bulletin board.  A copy of the list of materials are prepared every time IMC

    acquires new books.

 

4. DUPLICATION OF MATERIALS

     

    a. Several copies of books are purchased if it is in great demand.

 

5. WEEDING OF OBSOLETE/WORN OUT MATERIALS

 

    Book are removed from the shelves when:

 

    a. They are totally worn-out

    b. Their contents are definitely out of date

    c. They have become yellowed with age and use

    d. The prints are very fine print and cannot be read anymore
