GENERAL POLICIES OF THE HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
A. Book Selection
Book selection depends on the students’ and teachers’ needs, and the available funds. Suggestions and opinions of the Learning Resource Staff and the Principal are taken into consideration in the selection of library materials.
The following criteria are considered in the selection of books:
A. Philosophy and objectives of the students.
B. Range of the reading ability of the students.
C. Data of circulation
D. Quality of materials in terms of accuracy and content.
E. Interest and need of the students and teachers.
F. Substitute materials available from sources
within the school and the community.
B. Procedure and Criteria for Evaluation and Selection of Testbooks and Other Instructional Materials
Generally textbooks are selected by the concerned subject teachers, though in some cases, committee composed of faculty, librarian and administrator may do the selection.
Indeed it is significant that teachers have their choices and really be involved in the process of textbook selection. After three to five years of use, new sets of books are evaluated following the enumerated procedures:
1. The Librarian gives evaluation books provided by the different publishing houses to the Academic
Coordinator
2. The Academic Coordinator gives them to the Subject Area Coordinators
3. The Subject Coordinator together with the subject teachers evaluates the content and the quality of the
book/s
4. The subject teachers examine and
5. The Librarian is then informed of the final set of textbooks chosen
6. Then purchasing letter is made signed and approved by the High School Principal
The librarian also provides the teachers with the suggested criteria for selection.
