Mission Statement from CHALLENGES 2004
We, Sisters of the Manila Priory, greeted the New Year 2004 with the 15th Manila Priory Chapter held on January 10-27 at St. Scholastica’s Center of Spirituality in Tagaytay City. Our discernment process and all deliberation revolved around the theme:
NEW LIFE, NEW CREATION
Revitalizing Our Local Communities
for Effective Witness to Christ
It is with a sense of a new vigor that we then proceed to reflect on how we can creatively put new life into our local communities. Holding on to the mandate of the last general Chapter 2000 which we adopted in our last Priory Chapter 2001, we once again reaffirmed our strong resolve to build TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES OF PEACE AND JOY as a response to the present situation in our country.
We find it imperative to revitalize and renew ourselves individually and communally towards a radical return to the Gospel values of love of God and neighbor, total self-donation, forgiveness and reconciliation, poverty for the Kingdom, and justice and peace. We draw strength and courage to do this in our growing knowledge of and deepening intimacy with Christ.
Having our future generation in mind with all their problems and concern on one side and their capacity for generosity and commitment on the other, we wish to pass on to them as legacy, our renewed and revitalizing response to the main challenges of our times:
To the blatant economic injustice of elite globalization,We urge our communities to develop a culture of sharing and strive for simplicity of life-style.
To the continued discrimination and violence against women and children, we offer true sisterhood among ourselves and ourco-workers and intensify our advocacy for the empowerment of women.
Confronted with ecological crisis, we affirm our interconnectedness with all beings, which urges us to engage in earth-friendly activities in our communities and in our apostolate.
Appalled by the increase of culture of violence and fundamentalism, we develop in ourselves acceptance and appreciation of differences and cultural diversity and engage in ecumenical and interfaith dialogues.
Faced with the culture of violence and death, we nurture a culture of peace and help promote a better quality of life for our people.
